Beno, VIP Director

Released in hyper small quantities, our Noble Selections are highly allocated wines with a deep story. Maybe the wines come from a famous appellation, or a vintage that lost most of its harvest. Whatever the reason, these allocated wines are more expensive and much harder to source. Enjoy, and thank you for your friendship.

These precious Burgundian vines are carefully tended to through organic practices to maximize quality. Each grape cluster spends slightly more time on the vine without over-ripening or increasing potential alcohol. Over the years, the domaine has slightly cut back on yields in an effort to increase depth and complexity.

Vintage

A cooler year that takes time to develop. It begins to provide complexity along with inherent freshness after a few years in cellar.

Tasting Notes

The nose features an exquisite bouquet of raspberries, green strawberry, dried rose petal, forest floor, and a kiss of baking spice. The palate is warm and inviting with lovely structure, silky tannins, and a pristine finish.

Farming

Austria is the home of biodynamics and Judith Beck holds these traditions close. Located on the gravel plateau named Parndorfer Platte, this 0.72 hectare single vineyard parcel of 15 year old, biodynamically cultivated vines grow on a red gravel soil at the top of the slope. These vines make for some of the best St. Laurent wines in the region.

Vintage

Frost damage and a hailstorm at the end of June cut yields by almost 50%. The fruit that was salvaged has a sense of maturity with excellent acidity and lower pH-values, creating fruit forward, well structured reds.

Tasting Notes

Vibrant purple fruits, supple minerality, and a kiss of lavender create a magnificent bouquet that resolves itself on the palate in the form of rich, lively, blue fruits, heaps of minerality and soft tannins.

Farming

In 2011 Julien and Emmanuelle Montagnon took over the 9 hectare vineyard from the retiring Jean-Marie and Sylvette Lombard. Julien is from the Drome region of France and wanted to apply his knowledge and philosophy of biodynamics to the Northern Rhone. His vision was to rebuild the appellation Brezème. Today, they have achieved this vision in spades. Maison Lombard is now part of “Renaissance des Appellations,” an exclusive group of biodynamic producers in this region.

Vintage

Heavy rains in June and July, followed by great weather in August and September, enable Syrah to bounce back. Plus, Lombard harvested early before a significant hail storm. “We have purity and aromatics, but less tannins. It's a softer vintage.”

Tasting Notes

A lively nose of what was once crushed strawberry is now deeper and more concentrated raspberry and plum. These darker fruits remain balanced while hints of sweet leather and white truffle carry the palate through to a soft finish with structured but rounded tannins.
