The somewhat sharp tannin of this wine invites several protein-based pairings - for a rustico bottle of Italian vino, think steak grilled over an open flame with plenty of rosemary and olive oil, though a ragù of red meat over pasta will do well too. For vegetarians, eggplant is your friend here, try to get a good char on it, and top with some meaty tomatoes.
Tasting Notes
Now this is why we love Italian wine - it's made from a grape no one's ever heard of (not even us), its label is simple and makes us think of the Romans, and the wine inside is just stunning. With a dark brooding nose that promises some mineral intensity, and a palate that is deceptively playful and joyous, although with a tannic backbone, this wine makes us dream of scrubby bushes, sandy roads, and old Italians hanging washed handmade tablecloths out to dry. It is a great wine made from an uncommon grape, and moreso, it is a wine of real emotion and depth.
