Pairing
There are some pairings that just work, and the contemporary classic of Gamay and a good burger is hard to deny – the acidity of the wine keeps things from getting too heavy, while the darker fruit profile pairs with the seared flavorful beef (or vegetarian) patties just perfectly. Other options are lighter meat preparations too, or anything off the grill or with a char (veggies and seafood included).
Tasting Notes
Now this is why we love Gamay – coming from the Loire Valley rather than better-known Beaujolais, this is a wine that we affectionately call, “crunchy.” What this means is that it has a bright, fresh, fruit profile (red and black berries this time), along with higher acid, and low tannin. It makes for an easy drinking red with a flavor that undeniably stimulates the appetite, and shows why we so often describe these wines as “lively.”
