This is a fantastic aperitif wine, and easy to enjoy on its own, though it will pair excellently with spicy, creamy poultry preparations like the Hungarian classic, Chicken Paprikash. Flavorful dishes made with lighter protein is the way to go here, blackened catfish, chicken pad thai, or even something like Duck Confit with sour cherries will be excellent.
Tasting Notes
There is a recent trend towards still white wines made from red grapes - in Champagne and other sparkling wine regions this has been commonplace for centuries, you may have seen Blanc de Noir written on a delicious bottle of bubbly (meaning 'White of Reds'). However, it's only recently that we've seen more and more still whites made this way, and the wines are always surprising. This example, coming from the Blaufränkisch grape (or Kékfrankos in Hungary), really does show the classic blueberry notes that Blaufränkisch can present, along with a soft palate, with a crisp, clean finish. If you're ever in a situation to blind taste someone on a fun, new wine, this would be a fabulous candidate.
