Hailing from the land of San Marzano tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, we can't think of a better pairing for this wine than a classic lasagna with a deeply flavored ragu; however, it's also going to match excellently with grilled pork or beef slathered with plenty of rosemary and olive oil, or confited eggplant with tomato concassé.
Tasting Notes
While Italy is well known for the diversity of its grapes, in the world of truly great red wine, it is known primarily for two varietals - Nebbiolo from Piemonte, Barolo, and Barbaresco and Sangiovese from Tuscany, Chianti, and Brunello. However, we also know that some of Italy's finest wines are borne from the Aglianico grape. This wine is a plane ticket to Naples in a bottle, with aromas of fresh leather, dark red fruits, both fresh and dried, and a touch of balsamic.
