Tasting Notes
Renzo Castella is a man of tradition – on a recent visit to his winery in the tiny village of Diano, he described the way he makes his wine as the way his father did, and the way his father did. These are wines with the pedigree of Barolo (famous castles of the region dot the landscape, and can be seen from his Dolcetto vineyards), but with an approachability that is hard to beat. They are warm, friendly wines with plenty of red fruit, dried herbs, and lip-smacking acidity, but with a seriousness that is clear. They’re a bit like Renzo, smiling, and joyful, but clearly so filled with know-how and passion that you want them by your side as often as possible.
