Although this wine comes from Italy, it certainly feels like a wine from the mountains and will pair excellently with all kinds of alpine cheeses and meats, like Tallegio and Speck, or a thick center-cut pork chop with mostarda, although the wine does have enough gumption to stand up to a classic braised Osso Buco over Risotto alla Milanese, with plenty of saffron.
Tasting Notes
A rare Nebbiolo from northern Italy in Lombardy, where it's known as Chiavennesca, this bottle has a bit more charm than the notoriously closed wines of neighboring Piedmont. The nose is subtle and appealing, with bright cherry fruit and a touch of strawberry, with the palate confirming these, along with a hint of spice, signature violets, and silky smooth tannins.
