The key with a lighter bodied red like Grolleau is to not overwhelm it. A nice pâté of chicken livers and toast points, grilled scallops with beurre blanc, or grilled squash with pesto and bleu cheese will all be excellent choices.
Tasting Notes
It's impossible to talk about the Grolleau grape without mentioning the Loire Valley. It's a varietal that you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the world, and growers take a special kind of pride in working with this native grape. This wine is a great example of how charming Grolleau can be. With light intimations of purple fruit on the nose and a trademark earthen characteristic, it's both straightforward and delicious, but also remarkably nuanced.
