Opening with textbook Syrah notes of concentrated red berries, a whiff of cigar smoke, and an earthy richness, the nose on the Cuvée Paul is seductive and powerful. On the palate, the promise of the nose is not just fulfilled, but exceeded. From front to back, there are rich, supple tannins, and although the fruit is moderate, it's classy with elegance and clarity to spare; lush red fruit comes through, along with a host of complementary secondary elements like cooked pork, fresh-fallen leaves, and the same seductive smoke.
