The Rote Biene is a rare red aperitif, perfect for enjoying on its own to open up the palate before a meal. It's also an excellent match for raw seafood like a salmon tartare or scallop crudo. The dark red fruit here also makes it a great companion for pork, so feel free to break it out the next time you're cooking brats and sauerkraut or pork chops with applesauce.
Tasting Notes
We love a wine like the Rote Biene because it's about as different as you can get from the standard bottles of red you may find on supermarket shelves and far tastier. Almost as much a white wine as a red, this bottle will benefit from a nice hour-long chill in the fridge. Opening with vibrant dark red fruit with a touch of sasparilla and anise on the nose, the palate is as light as it gets, confirming those same direct, flirtatious fruits on the nose.
