With smoke elements inherently in the flavor, this wine is a fabulous match for whole smoked pork shoulder or carnitas done in the oven. Its brisk acidity also makes it a great candidate for pairing with steak salads with bleu cheese and dried fruit or a plate of roasted wild mushrooms.
Tasting Notes
The “Prince of Greek reds,” this Agiorgitiko (pronounced A-your-yit-iko), is all darkness and depth on the nose, with brooding black fruit and smoke elements wafting in the glass. The palate changes pace though, with some pleasant juicy fruit, a touch of black tea, and plenty of weight and tannic structure. The healthy dose of acidity helps to freshen everything up.
