Rare Spanish Tempranillo

In the western hamlet of Zomora, Spain – near the famous Camino de Santiago – the hot Spanish sun beams over the high-altitude vineyards of Vega de Tera, shepherding bunches of Tempranillo grapes to perfect ripeness. And, although the sun’s might is responsible for this singular wine’s concentration of sweet damson plum and bramble fruit, it’s the chill of the night that gives this wine its form. Full of food-friendly tannins, a teasing soupçon of oak, and power to spare, this wine will make a friend with any preparation of red meat, or any occasion when brawny reds are required. 

We’ve long had a soft spot for Spanish red wine, but it is incredibly difficult to find great Spanish wines that fit our criteria. The strong Mediterranean sun means higher alcohol, and the low annual rainfall in many parts of the country means that many organic growers may also use irrigation - this Tempranillo is exceptional in that it brings Spanish power without the typical alcohol.
