Pairing
An aged Bordeaux will do very well beside all kinds of roast meat, from roast duck to seared ribeye with au poivre sauce, but the delicacy it's age in the bottle has given it will make it a nice match for lighter proteins and mushrooms, as well.
Tasting Notes
A wine right in its ideal drinking window, the 2011 Vieux Mougnac opens with notes of black currant, pencil shavings, and just a mote of toasty earth. On the palate, these primary and tertiary characteristics are balanced harmoniously, presenting layers of fresh and dried fruit, long back-to-front tannin, and a lingering, dried earth finish.
