A red wine of this kind of fruity richness does very well beside meats that take to a bit of sweetness - think braised short ribs, a seared duck breast with cherries, or for something unique, chinese wok-fried eggplant with fresh scallions and five-spice.
Tasting Notes
Slarina is one of the rarest varieties in all of Italy, and has been rescued, in part, by the winery, Iuli. Opening with a very open nose of chocolate, cherries, and other ripe red fruits, it's a departure from the typically-overtly-earthy Italian red profile. The palate is deep, soft, and subtle with a substantial mineral note, and a long, lightly-tannic finish.
