Aglianico's broad shoulders make it a natural match for meat like a florentine steak, or a ragù, either white or red, while it's earthiness makes it a fabulous companion to grilled mushrooms, or something similarly earthy like marinated eggplant.
Tasting Notes
Italian wine, at large, is defined by its great, indigenous grapes, and Aglianico is definitely among that pantheon. From the South, this example of this classically-rustic red wine opens with notes of earth, dried red cherry, dried herbs, and a touch of balsamic, while the palate reflects the same notes, with medium tannins, and a gentle finish.
